EXTENDED REGISTRATION DEADLINE: JUNE 18 (EXTENDED!)
The 2024 CLAW Invitational is a tournament that previews the new professional league, CLAW, that debuts in 2025. This event will help athletes, coaches and fans understand what CLAW is all about---and why so many people are excited about the prospects of this league.
The Championship Finals will feature a live crowd (we're expecting a packed gym) and be professionally produced for streaming on social media. Shane Sparks, Mike McMullan, and Mike Malinconico make up the broadcast team. Finalists will be drafted by two celebrity General Managers (Billy Baldwin and Cayden Henschel) to create a dual-like atmosphere with wrestlers representing two of CLAW's initial teams. Top placers will be paid appearance fees to participate in a Meet & Greet Autograph session after the finals.
When registration closes, the host committee will select no more than 10 wrestlers at each weight. We must limit registrants for this event, but if you aren't selected we hope you'll still support this comprehensive effort for wrestling to finally have a viable, professional league. Your credit card will not be charged unless accepted into this event. If your club pays entry fees, we can provide a coupon code to use when registering.
TOURNAMENT DETAILS
The 2024 CLAW Invitational is a collegiate/senior-level tournament featuring alternative wrestling rules that increase action and fan engagement.
WHEN: June 22-23, 2024
WHERE: Independence High School (Ashburn, VA) see map
WHO: Athletes born in 2005 or before (see requirements below); age exceptions may be approved
WEIGHTS: 135, 144, 153, 163, 174, 185, 199, and 250 pounds (scratch weight on Saturday; 6-pound allowance on Sunday)
RULES: Alternative rules. Rules are a combination of modified folkstyle and freestyle rules, plus innovations to increase action, scoring, and excitement
FORMAT: Traditional advancement brackets. Consolation round wrestlers will compete for third place. Finalists will be drafted onto two teams for the Championship Finals. The Finals will be professionally produced and streamed live on social media.
FEE: $40
PRIZES: Each champion will be paid a $3,500 appearance fee for a “meet and greet” session with fans after the Finals. Other finalists will be paid $1,000 to sign autographs, and members of the winning dual team will be paid $500 for photo ops. Third place finishers will be paid $500 each to participate in similar activities. Such fees may be paid at the event but no later than 7 days after the event.
REGISTER: Interested wrestlers must register by June 18, 2024 (revised deadline). This is an invitational tourney, so the host committee will select the wrestlers to compete at each weight class. Accepted wrestlers will be notified no later than June 14. Credit cards will not be charged until wrestlers are admitted into the tourney.
ADMISSION: General Admission tickets for the general public are available only on Sunday. Championship Finals tickets are $25. To attend both Consolation and Championship Finals, tickets are $50. Family members will be admitted at no charge on Saturday.
